College of Journalism and Communications

Linjuan Rita Men is a professor of public relations in the College of Journalism and Communications, where she directs the Internal Communication Research Hub. A globally recognized expert in corporate and internal communication, Men’s work explores how organizations communicate with employees, lead through change and adapt to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Men’s current research focuses on how AI is transforming workplace communication, leadership transparency and trust-building. She’s also exploring how companies can better listen to employees and engage them in shaping corporate narratives – especially in today’s polarized media landscape.

“I believe communication is the heartbeat of any organization,” Men said. “When leaders communicate authentically and listen actively, they build trust, inspire action and create meaningful change.”

Men’s work with corporate clients is an extension of her academic research, bridging theory with real-world application. Her collaborations span a range of industries, helping organizations improve internal communication, leadership transparency and employee engagement.

She has partnered with major corporations and industry groups through funded research projects supported by organizations such as the Arthur W. Page Center, the Institute for Public Relations and the National Association for Manufacturers. These partnerships allow her to study communication challenges in real-time and develop actionable strategies tailored to each organization’s needs.

One of her key areas of focus is AI-driven leadership communication. Men helps companies understand how artificial intelligence can enhance decision-making transparency and foster stronger relationships between leaders and employees. Her research guides corporate leaders in using digital tools to listen more effectively to their workforce, build trust and respond to employee concerns in meaningful ways.

She also works with companies on employee activism and agenda-building, helping them navigate sensitive social and geopolitical issues. Her insights enable organizations to engage employees in shaping corporate narratives, especially in today’s polarized media environment.

Myiah Hutchens, chair of the Department of Public Relations, praises Men’s impact: “Dr. Men is a thought leader whose research continues to push the boundaries of strategic communication. Her productivity, scholarly influence and commitment to excellence make her a role model for both scholars and practitioners.”

Men is also a dedicated mentor and educator, inspiring students to think critically about the role of communication in society. She also serves on editorial boards for several top journals and frequently presents her work at national and international conferences.
