Timothy Vollmer, Ph.D.

Timothy Vollmer serves as the director of the Behavior Analysis Research Clinic. A UF alumnus who earned his Ph.D. in 1992, Vollmer served on the faculties at Louisiana State University and the University of Pennsylvania before returning to UF in 1998, where he has since built a distinguished career in applied behavior analysis. His influential research focuses on developmental disabilities, reinforcement schedules, parenting strategies and clinical applications.

He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, earning him the 2022 SEAB Don Hake Translational Research Award, one of the most prestigious awards in Behavior Analysis and the 2024 Murray Sidman Award for Enduring Contributions to Behavior Analysis. In the past five years, he has authored or co-authored 56 papers in peer-reviewed journals and six book chapters, primarily with doctoral students, post-doctoral associates, early career colleagues and undergraduate students, half of which have appeared in the leading journal in his field. His students have also presented more than 50 posters and conference papers during this time.

He is also a sought-after speaker nationally and internationally. He has delivered over 100 invited addresses, including 31 in the last five years, with talks in Italy, Finland, Iceland and Russia.

Vollmer is the exemplar of translational science, said Julia A. Graber, chair of the Department of Psychology. “He and his trainees develop and test best practices in clinical settings, disseminate this work to improve service provision worldwide and train the next generation of science practitioners to conduct innovative applied research.”

Recently, he has shifted his focus to Smith-Magenis Syndrome, a genetic developmental disorder. He is now part of a research consortium for SMS that unites parents and scientists looking to increase understanding and awareness of the disorder.

Vollmer’s dedication to translating behavioral science into practice is deeply reflected in his leadership at the Behavior Analysis Research Clinic, where he mentors graduate and undergraduate students in hands-on, community-focused interventions for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
